The American School of Lima (Colegio Franklin D. Roosevelt) is a private, coeducational day school. It offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1946. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 2 to December 22 and from February 27 to June 28.
The School is governed by a 12-member Board of Directors representing the Instituto Educacional Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Under this operating entity, the School is tax-exempt in Peru. The School is supported in the United States by "The American School of Lima Foundation" and is tax-exempt in the United States.
The curriculum is that of general U.S. academic, college-preparatory private schools. The School expects to be authorized by the International Baccalaureate organization to add the middle years and primary years programs by October 2006. In July of 2006 the School became an authorized MYP school. The School has offered the IB Diploma since 1993, and there is a Peruvian national curriculum with an emphasis on Latin American studies and the Spanish language. Instruction is in English and to a small degree in Spanish. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The School offers a range of programs for students with special needs, including mild learning disabilities and English-as-a-Second-Language and speech and language therapy.
The preschool, elementary, middle and high school programs are housed in 8 separate buildings on a well-landscaped, 21-acre campus in residential Lima. The School has 7 modern science laboratories, 5 computer laboratories, 4 music rooms, 2 multipurpose areas, a complete media center, 2 gymnasiums, and numerous sports fields.
