The British School Quito was founded in 1995 under the auspices of the British Embassy and the British Council, chaired by the British Ambassador to Ecuador. The board includes prominent Ecuadorian and British professionals. The international contingent includes students from Europe (including UK), Canada and USA. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly, with considerable emphasis on values, courtesy and industry. The school campus is located in a pleasant Andean valley within easy reach of central capital of Quito. The school is well-equipped with science and computer laboratories, sports facilities including a large heated swimming pool, a junior football pitch together with tennis, basketball and volleyball courts Most class and subject teachers are qualified in the United Kingdom and there is normally a maximum class size of 20. The programme follows the English National Curriculum, leading to the IB Diploma. All students have the opportunity to become completely bilingual. The co-curricular programme includes sports, music, theatre and community service. The British School Quito follows the three-term pattern of the British school year, with classes beginning in early September and concluding at the end of June. The school also offers a wide variety of extra curricular activities including the International Youth Award (Duke of Edinburgh) Scheme. Enrolment is based upon previous schooling record, testing in English and interview.
