The American International School of Costa Rica (AIS) was founded in 1970 as the Costa Rica Academy. AIS today is a private co-educational day school with a curriculum ranging from Pre-school to Grade 12 catering to students of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds. With over 200 students representing over 25 different nationalities, AIS is truly an international educational institution. Its school campus is located in Cariari, a very beautiful suburb of western San Jose. It has modern classroom buildings built around open courtyards and tropical gardens. AIS graduates attain a U.S. High School Diploma and the school provides the opportunity for students to complete the National Baccalaureate of the Ministry of Education. While all instructions are given in English, AIS students are still required to learn Spanish and French, which are offered as elective subjects. AIS is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
