Country Day School was founded in 1963 as a private, English-language, co-educational, non-sectarian day school. The purposes and standards of the school are comparable to selective U.S. independent and college-preparatory schools. CDS is widely known in Costa Rica for its academic excellence, its college preparatory program, and broad range of academic and co-curricular programs and the dedication of its teaching and administrative faculty. The school maintains a student to teacher ratio of 20:1 to better manage the students. CDS Guanacaste campus is an extension of the main campus located in Escazu and was established in 2000. The campus is located in a 35-acre property with its own school buildings, a covered gym, pool, athletic field, staff housing and a cafeteria. The high school building is equipped with science lab, library, computer laboratory and administrative offices while the new elementary and early childhood building with 16 classrooms houses the new administrative offices and a new multi-functional cafeteria/auditorium. In addition, the campus also houses a 20-room boarding program residence hall.
