The International Preparatory School is an international school that provides a friendly supportive environment for children coming to Santiago, Chile from all over the world. The school was founded in 1975 by the British Council along with a group of parents who wanted their children to attend an international school with a curriculum based on that of Great Britain. During its infancy TIPS was located in small premises in the Providencia sector of Santiago. As the school grew, it moved several times until in 1992 when it moved into its own premises in El Arrayan, a lovely area in the foothills of the mountains.
TIPS' mission is to give the students the best education possible by providing them with an environment characterized by individual attention and care so that the students develop as informed, productive, and concerned world citizens ready to meet the challenges of the future.
The school is recognized as a Centre for Cambridge International Examinations and is authorized to administer the International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), A-Levels and the Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE), which are accepted for admission to U.K. universities as well as many universities around the world. It is also regularly inspected by representatives of the U.S. State Department for its inclusion on the list of approved school for U.S. government employees and contractors. The school has also been approved for the same purposes by the British Council.
TIPS is affiliated with the European Council of International Schools (ECIS) and the International Schools Service (ISS) and is also a member of the United Kingdom Reading Association and the United Kingdom Mathematics Association.
