
Our Lady of Mercy School (OLM) is an accredited, English language, American and Brazilian curriculum school which provides cutting edge educational programs based on Catholic principles for children of all nationalities in a traditional learning situation. The school is maintained by the Society of Our Lady of Mercy which was founded by resident British and American families of Rio de Janeiro in 1919 for the original purpose of celebrating Catholic services and offering spiritual support to visitors to the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Society’s objectives expanded and the School was established between 1952 and 1953. It has served international families since that time.
Our Lady of Mercy School is situated in the borough of Botafogo, nestled between Sugar Loaf and the Christ the Redeemer Statue, about five miles from the center of the city and one mile from some of the most famous beaches in the world.
The School’s philosophy is to prepare students to develop character, spiritual values, social awareness, to discover individual talents and develop interpersonal skills in order to become a responsible citizens in any culture. The international atmosphere promotes solid understanding and knowledge of the dignity of all people.
