The American School of Belo Horizonte is a private, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August 3 to December 15 and from January 16 to June 15.
The School is governed by a 8-member Board of Directors elected for a 2-year term by the International Association, the sponsor of the School. Membership in the Association is automatically conferred on all parents of children enrolled in the School. The School is registered in Brazil under Escola Americana de Belo Horizonte. It is not incorporated in the United States.
The curriculum is that of a U.S. public school. Instruction is in English with Portuguese taught as a foreign language to all students. Advanced Placement courses are offered in a variety of subjects at the high school level. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
The School is located on a 7-acre site in a suburban setting and has a main classroom/office building, an early childhood center and separate facilities for art and music. There is also a canteen, a soccer field, an outdoor volleyball court and a gymnasium.
