The American International School of Bolivia is a private, co-educational day school which offers an educational program from Pre-kindergarten through Grade 12 for students of all nationalities. All classes (except for language instructions where lessons are taught in French, German, and Spanish) are taught in English while Spanish is required for all students in grades 1-12. Founded in 1993, the school year comprises 2 semesters extending from August to mid-December and from mid-January through the beginning of June. It is governed by a seven-member Board of Directors with one member from the U.S. Embassy. The school offers a curriculum that reflects a strong emphasis on whole-language plus phonics at the elementary level, U.S. college preparation at the secondary level and follows the guidelines of the International Baccalaureate program. The School offers 3 High School Diplomas: the Bolivian Bachillerato, the International Baccalaureate (IB) and an accredited U.S. High School Diploma. Teaching strategies focus on brain-based research and multiple intelligences, with teaching methods being tailored to the individual needs of the students. The School offers SAT preparatory classes and on-line TOEFL. The American International School of Bolivia is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and is an associate of the Association of American Schools in South America and the European Council of International Schools.
