The American School Foundation of Guadalajara, A.C. is a private, coeducational school offering an educational program from nursery and pre-K to grade 12 to students of all nationalities. Originally founded in 1908, it was re-established as a non-profit organization in 1956. The School offers a U.S.-style education that is bi-cultural, bi-lingual, and secular. The school year extends from the third week of August to the last week of June with two semesters and breaks in between. ASF Guadalajara is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors appointed 1- to 3-year term by the American School Board of Trustees which sponsors the School. The curriculum follows that of U.S. general academic and college-preparatory public schools and various official Mexican programs with instruction given in English and Spanish. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), the Mexican Secretary of Education, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. The School offers limited support services for students with minor learning disabilities. Honors and Advanced Placement classes are offered at the high school level. The school is staffed by 176 full-time faculty members with a student body of approximately 1,500 as of 2007. The School has its own 5-acre property with 93 classrooms, 6 science laboratories, 2 media centers, 3 art rooms, 3 music rooms, 4 computer laboratories, an administrative building, an auditorium, an infirmary, 2 cafeterias, a multipurpose gymnasium, 2 section playgrounds, 2 sports areas, and a heated swimming pool.
