The American School Foundation (ASF) of Mexico City is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from early childhood (age 4) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The ASF is authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization to provide the Primary Years, Middle Years, and Diploma curriculum. The academic year is composed of two semesters extending from mid-August to mid-December and first week of January to early June.
The School is governed by a 17-member Board of Trustees elected for 3-year terms by the American School Foundation. Membership in the Foundation is open to U.S. citizens living in Mexico with a nominal membership fee.
The curriculum offers a U.S.-style college-preparatory program and requirements for Mexican university admission. Instruction is in English, with Spanish offered to complete host-country requirements. The School is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) and is an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program affiliate.
A total of more than 200 full-time and part-time faculty members, including U.S. citizens, host- country nationals, 23 third-country nationals comprise the teaching staff of the school. The student body is composed of more than 2,400 pupils representing U.S. citizens, Mexicans and other nationalities.
The School occupies a 17-acre campus in Tacubaya, a suburb of Mexico City. There are 16 buildings including administrative offices, the Early Childhood Center, the elementary school, the middle school, the high school, 2 snack bars, 2 multi-purpose buildings (one of which includes a gymnasium, dressing and shower facilities), 2 indoor physical education facilities, a covered pool; an auditorium; a new covered bus transportation center, and a new football field.
