Located near Lake Geneva and overlooking the Alps, the International School of Lausanne has been providing a varied and high standard educational program for the local and international community since 1962. The school is a non-profit, English-language day school aiming to provide a comprehensive education for children aged 3-18. At present 430 students from 44 countries are enrolled. The school is located in the small town of Pully, which adjoins the larger city of Lausanne. The students attend classes in six buildings, two of which are charming villas. The school’s grounds include a basketball court and a garden. The school also has its own football field and uses local gyms, halls and swimming pools for sports activities. The academic program is divided into three sections: the Early Childhood Center (ages 3-4), Primary (ages 5-10) and Secondary (ages 11-18). In all sections the curriculum is international. Throughout the school, the teaching aims to use the best educational practice and materials from around the world. IGCSE courses are taken by students in Years 10 and 11 (Grades 9 and 10), and those of the International Baccalaureate Diploma program by students in Year 12 and 13 (grades 11 and 12). As the host country language, French is studied daily by students in years 1-11 (Grades K-10). Swedish(at extra cost) and Spanish or German (from Year 8) are also offered. Secondary students take part in a week-long field course in the Fall and a ski week in the Winter, whilst students in Years 3-6 (Grades 2-5) ski every Friday during the Winter. A strong ESL department forms part of the Learning Support Program. Specialist help is also provided for a limited number of students with particular learning difficulties. The teachers are certified in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Switzerland and Sweden. Faculty members have been with the school for an average of ten years. The school is characterised by its family atmosphere. This orderly and friendly environment is the result of the concern and dedication of the staff, and the close co-operation of the parent body. ISL is accredited by the European Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
