Stockholm International School is the only school in Stockholm to offer a truly international education. The School is situated in the centre of Stockholm City. It draws its students from the business and diplomatic personnel for whom Stockholm is an international hub. Average student tenure is some 3 years, though many students stay for much longer and a few are with us for only a few months. There are some "non-international" students from Stockholm itself and these Swedish nationals comprise some 5% of the student body. There is no boarding facility and all students travel to school daily, some by foot or bicycle, many by bus and train and a large proportion are brought by car or in taxis organized and pooled by the diplomatic community. The School is governed by a Board of Trustees. The Board normally comprises 6 elected parent representatives, one of whom must be Chair. In addition, diplomatic representatives from the three most populously represented counties are asked to sit and represent the student body. Further, up to three community representatives may be elected, and two members of the staff sit, being elected to the position by the two largest teachers’ unions. Two non-voting members of the Board complete the group, being the school director and the business manager. The School is composed of a pre-school, a Primary section, and a Secondary (upper) section.. The School’s management includes a director, a K-12 principal, an IB manager, a MYP manager, a Support Services manager, and an IPC manager. The International Primary Curriculum runs in grades 1-5 (Primary), the IB MYP Program in grades 6-10 and the IB Diploma Program in grades 11-12. The School is approved and accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization, the European Council of International Schools and Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. The School is situated in the center of Stockholm City. The building comprises 7 floors (2 basement levels, the ground floor and five floors above). The top floor (attic) was designed as a dedicated teaching and work area for the IB Diploma students. The auditorium on the 4th floor is a multi-purpose room serving as a theatre, assembly hall, drama studio and a school canteen. A lunch program for students who wish to have it is provided by an international school meals company. Two science laboratories, an art centre, a computer room, a technology room, a gymnasium and a library/media centre complete the line-up of dedicated student work areas.
