
The British School of Bucharest is an international, coeducational, day school in Bucharest, Romania. It was opened in August 2000 in response to a demand in Bucharest for a high quality internationally recognized education. Since then the school has grown both in terms of the number of children and classes.
The British School of Bucharest offers a developmental curriculum in line with the UK National Curriculum. It is structured and balanced to ensure the children cover a range of subjects, with a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy. English as an additional language and other educational support are offered as appropriate.
All class teachers at The British School of Bucharest are fully qualified and are native English speakers. The teachers are all familiar with the UK National Curriculum and receive on-going training as new Department for Education initiatives are introduced and implemented. Due to the intimate class sizes teachers are able to meet each child's individual needs. In addition the classes have the support of trained teaching assistants.
The school is a member of COBISEC (Council of British Independent Schools in the European Communities). COBISEC ensures consistently high standards are maintained throughout member schools through regular inspection, training and professional development for teachers. The school has also been placed on the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) list of approved British schools overseas.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is at the heart of the British School of Bucharest's curriculum in terms of discrete skills and most importantly using ICT in other subjects. All classes have internet access, and this is complemented by a state of the art computer suite complete with interactive whiteboard technology. Secondary students have access to a new science laboratory extensively equipped with resources from the UK. At IGCSE level Year 10 & 11 pupils will follow the double award for Science which incorporates Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The school is also extremely fortunate to have access to a health club next door and uses the state of the art facilities for swimming and tennis. In addition football training takes place at Dinamo stadium.
