
The International Secondary School Eindhoven is the international section of the Dutch Stedelijk College Eindhoven, and is supported by the Dutch Ministry of Education. It provides a complete secondary education in English to children from the international community in and around Eindhoven.
The International Secondary School Eindhoven is a fully authorised IBO world school. In Years 1-5, the school offers the Middle Years Programme of the International Organisation. In Years 6 and 7 students study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Most graduating students go on to university or college studies in the Netherlands or elsewhere.
An intensive English Language Learning programme is provided for students with limited proficiency in English. A wide range of mother tongue languages is offered at IB Diploma level. In cooperation with the Stedelijk College Eindhoven, the ISSE also provides classes for students following the bilingual programme in the national department.
Faculty members are well qualified in their fields and represent a range of nationalities, with British and Dutch predominating. Students represent some forty nationalities, the largest groups coming from the Netherlands, the UK, the USA, Japan and Taiwan. Lessons are held from Monday to Friday starting at 09:00 and ending at 15:50. Each day consists of seven 50-minute lessons, with a twenty-minute morning break, and a forty-minute lunch break.
The CAS component of the IB Diploma stimulates a wide variety of extra-curricular activities such as cultural days, concerts, exhibitions, musical productions, sports events and Model United Nations.
The International Secondary School Eindhoven is housed in a spacious separate building in the north of Eindhoven with 20 specialist classrooms, four fully-equipped science laboratories, two computer laboratories, two art studios, design-technology workshop, darkroom, music room, language laboratory, multimedia language centre, double gymnasium, large media centre/library, and a large multipurpose hall and cafeteria. Outside facilities include two hard-surfaced courts and recreation space.
Admission to International Secondary School Eindhoven is open to all students from international backgrounds who are able to benefit from the programmes, and is granted following an interview and placement tests. Applicants for the IB Diploma must demonstrate sufficient academic aptitude, and have a satisfactory command of English.
