Arnhem International School is an international, co-educational day school in the Netherlands with a Primary Department (ages 4-12) and a Secondary Department (ages 12-18). The school offers high quality, English-language education in an international and multi-cultural setting, where safety, mutual respect and world citizenship are key. Around forty-five nationalities are represented in a school population of approximately 250 students. Those pupils come largely from expatriate families who live and work in the Arnhem region. Arnhem International School is situated between the two cities of Arnhem and Nijmegen and is easily accessible by public transport. The secondary department is part of the larger Lorentz College, a Dutch comprehensive school. It offers an English language curriculum following the IB Middle Years Programme since July 2005 leading up to the IGCSE. The IB Diploma Programme is offered to students since July 1989 and only to those who have successfully completed the IGCSE examinations or similar examinations elsewhere. The set of courses allocates for delineation and although a working familiarity of the English language is needed for all subject matters, support lessons in Dutch as well as English are offered to students whenever needed. A vast array of enhancement activities mixed with a variety of after-school activities form an essential part of the school programme including but not limited to field trips, workshops, sports and theater visits. An active International Parent’s Council as well as a Student’s Council provides for a well-balanced school organization by involving these two groups in enriching the school’s projects and activities through discussion, planning and implementation. The school is staffed by a faculty of native speakers of and teachers from countries within and outside the European Union. All teachers are graduates and experts in their own fields and have an excellent command of English, a thorough working knowledge of the school’s programmes.
