The International School of Torino (ACAT) is an independent, co-educational day school which offers an integrated English language and Italian programme from Nursery to Grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The courses in the Pre-School and Elementary are recognized by the Italian Ministry of Education. The ACAT prepares students for the Italian state exams in grades 6 to 8 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, as well as meeting the requirements for a college-preparatory diploma in the United States.
The school is governed by a nine-member Board elected by associated members. ACAT is accredited by the European Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
The academic year starts at the beginning of September and ends in mid-June. There are holidays in November, two weeks at Christmas, a ski week in February/March and a week at Easter. The school day is from 09:00 to 15:30 Mondays through Fridays.
The high school curriculum follows that of the International Baccalaureate Diploma programme, with options for US-college preparation. Instruction is in English. Italian, French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. Specialist instruction is provided by art, music, PE, computer and special needs teachers.
The student body at ACAT has a majority of Italian students followed by British and US citizens, and nineteen other nationalities. Students leaving IST enter various recognized institutions of higher education throughout the world.
The School is housed in renovated quarters near the castle in Moncalieri, a suburb adjacent to Turin. Facilities include classrooms, laboratories, libraries, music room, refectory, and playground area.
Admission to International School of Turin (ACAT) is open to any foreign student three years or older with priority given to students whose native language or language of fluency is English. The school is a recognized testing centre for the PSAT and the SAT.
