
Britannica International School is a coeducational day school in Budapest, Hungary. The school provides high-quality education based on the English National Curriculum in a friendly caring environment. The student body represents a total of over 25 different nations while the staff are predominantly expatriate UK teachers. It is an international examination centre for the Cambridge University Examination Board.
The school's academic year starts late August and finish mid-June of the following year. A typical school day starts at 8:40 am and finishes around 3:20 pm. After school activities starts from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm.
Students follow the English National Curriculum up to age 16, which covers a wide range of subjects, including a choice of several second languages. At age 16, the students take the Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) examination. Senior students (age 16-18) follow a two-year study programme designed to qualify them for entry into higher education, either in Hungary or overseas. At the end of the courses, the students take an AS and A Level examinations.
The school is particularly strong on extra-curricular activities with clubs every day after lessons. These range from various sports to drama, dance, photography, etc. There is a full range of trips and excursions every year, including summer camp, skiing and exchange trips abroad.
The school is in a purpose-built building with sports hall, canteen, outside sport facility, etc, located in a quiet part of central Budapest. The Brittanica school has regular visits from UK Education Advisers and Inspectors and the Ministry of Education in Hungary.
