Arsakeio School is a group of co-educational independent schools in Greece administrated by Filekpedeftiki Etaireia. The five schools are located at Psychiko, Ekali (Tositseio), Thessaloniki, Patras, and recently Tirana, Albania and have more than 3000 students each.
Filekpedeftiki Etaireia can be traced back to 1836 when Ioannis Kokkonis, Georgios Gennadios and Misail Apostolidis created a school where young girls could be educated after the difficult years of the war. Initially it was located in the center of Athens, in the place in Stoa tou Bibliou, and was functioning as a boarding school only for female students. It's ultimate aim was to train young teachers and send them (before 1913) to Macedonia, which at that time belonged to Bulgaria, in order to ensure the survival of the Greek language and culture which is not to be forgotten by Macedonian children. The school remained to be an exclusive all-girl school until about 1985. The school located in Tirana was opened less than a decage ago and has about 400 students. A new and bigger school is being built in Tirana complete with dormitories where students from other cities can stay.
