The American Community Schools of Athens Inc is a private, non-profit educational institution offering an educational program for English-speaking students from Junior Kindergarten to grade 12. The school is governed by an 8-member Board of Education elected by the parents. The school employs a teaching staff with advanced degrees (MA, PhD) in their respective fields, while the student body is a diverse group of young people representing more than 45 different countries whose stay in Greece averages five years. The school year starts at the beginning of September until mid-June with 5-day class week. Students are involved in a wide range of cultural and social activities - a large after-school activities program, tournaments, exchanges, field trips within Greece and out-of-country trips.
The school facilities are located in Halandri with a Pre-kindergarten to grade 5 Elementary School, a grades 6 to 8 Middle School and a grades 9 to 12 High School department. It is equipped with science, art, and music rooms, libraries, athletic facilities and computer laboratories.
ACS is an MSA-accredited school since 1965 providing a comprehensive curriculum for educational opportunities for college and non-college-bound students. The International Baccalaureate diploma and a broad range of Advanced Placement courses are available, as is an extensive foreign language program. Students are admitted on the basis of transcripts, letters of recommendation from previous schools and English proficiency. Also students must meet government admissions criteria.
