The Heidelberg International School (H.I.S.) is an independent co-educational day school currently enrolling students from Early Years 1 (age 4) to Grade 10 with a plan to teach up to Grade 12. The school has achieved "Candidate Status" for the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and the Middle Years Programme (MYP) of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO) and is planning to apply for implementation of the IB Diploma Programme for future Senior School students. The curriculum is international and the language of instruction is English with specialist teachers teaching German to all students.
It is the goal of H.I.S. to enable all its students to receive the most effective international education possible and to achieve the highest academic, social and moral standards of which they are capable of. The school places great emphasis on mutual respect for cultural differences, openness, tolerance and independent learning skills. The programme serves the specific needs of internationally mobile families and multilingual students, and offers an alternative education to local families. The school provides a learning environment, which nurtures enduring understanding and prepares students for a productive and responsible adult life or for the next stage of their educational journey.
