CES is a private, multicultural school, founded in 1995, for students from Prep Class to Grade 9. The School's mission is to give the students a solid, well-rounded education with an international perspective, to prepare them for the next step of their education, and to encourage openness, tolerance and respect for diversity in all its many forms. The CES student body numbers around 200-210, giving an average class size of 20-21 students. There are usually a larger number of applicants in Prep Class than there are available places. Siblings to students already attending CES, as long as they meet the other admissions’ requirements, automatically gain admission. The teaching staff is international, as well as highly professional and committed. The teachers are experts in their respective fields, and they teach a particular age group (usually two grades); this means that students change core (Danish, Math, English) teachers every two years in most cases. The curriculum combines a systematic and emergent approach to teaching, and the School try to maintain an atmosphere which is conducive to learning. The faculty try to balance the needs of the individual student with the collective. Though Danish is the main language of instruction, students learn English right from Prep Class. All English teachers have English as their mother tongue, just as all Danish teachers have Danish as their mother tongue. CES offers the usual range of academic and creative subjects, plus the full range (excluding German) of exams in Grade 9. French is offered from Grade 5 (with a single lesson in Grade 5 and 6). Students seeking admission after Grade 7 who do not have French, will have to continue with German at an “Ungdoms” school. The guidance counsellor helps students find the next step of their formal education.
