GIBS is a bilingual (German-English) senior secondary school with more than 400 students and 47 multi-lingual, multi-cultural teaching staff. The school teaches lessons in English but after a prescribed period, students are provided with linguistic backup for other subjects. In Year 7, History is taught in French. During the first five school years in particular, different subjects collaborate on broad projects that supplement language instruction. Besides teaching and communicating in several languages, the school also uses a wide range of learning strategies to acquire skills and academic knowledge, develops autonomy and team qualities through taking responsibility for one's actions, encourages respect for cultural diversity and develops critial awareness and constructive ways of dealing with criticisms of oneself and the world at large.
