The Tirana International School (TIS) is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from 2 year olds through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1991. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from early September to mid-June.
The School is governed by the Board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed as set forth in the Bylaws of Quality Schools International. An Advisory Board, composed of 6 members who reside in Tirana and are appointed jointly by the president of Quality Schools International and the director of the Tirana International School, assists the School in its operation.
The School offers an outcome-based educational program with a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. Instruction, leading to individual mastery, takes advantage of small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the students. Advanced Placement courses are offered for secondary students. Instruction is in English. Non-English-speaking students are enrolled in an intensive English-as-a-Second-Language Program. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. TIS is the test center in Albania for the SAT and ACT.
The School is located in converted residences inside a residential compound. The facilities are adequate for the current enrollment, and there is sufficient playground space for the students. Teachers live in nearby housing.
