Thai Chinese International School (TCIS) is a private, non-profit, day school for boys and girls founded in 1995 for the purpose of providing English language education for the Taiwanese community of Bangkok, as well as Thai and other communities.
The school curriculum is an extension of progressive American methods, modified in order to meet the expectations of the Taiwanese and Thai school community. Intensive Mandarin language courses with an emphasis in Chinese history and culture are taught daily. English is the medium of instruction in all courses other than Thai and Mandarin.
TCIS Lower School offers classes from Kindergarten to Grade 6. The maximum class size is 27 students. The school day begins at 7:15, and runs until 3:10 p.m. There are 8 learning periods in each day that are 45 minutes long each. There is also a 45 minute lunch and a 15 minute break. The TCIS Lower School curriculum is based on an American model, but is tailored in a number of ways to meet the needs of the students in Asia. TCIS Lower School base its learning outcomes on the McREL learning standards.
TCIS Upper School consists of grades 7 through Grade 12. Grades 9-12 are high school students while grades 7 and 8 are middle school students. Upon high school graduation our seniors have chosen to attend universities in America, Europe, Taiwan and here in Thailand. The core curriculum of the Upper School is American based, with adaptations made for the student population who are primarily Thai and Taiwanese.
The Thai Chinese International School is licensed and accredited under the Private Education Commission of the Thai Ministry of Education. It is also duly accredited by the Schools Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and is a member of the East Asian Regional Council of Overseas Schools (EARCOS). TCIS is an "Overseas Taipei School" accredited by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China.
TCIS has completed construction of a six story high school building unit with 36 new classrooms. Three science lab, a large art studio, music center and an auditorium are also included. Phase four of the building program will include a four story student center with a new library, an indoor gymnasium, canteen/lunch facility, a swimming pool, and various meeting rooms.
