The Japanese School was established by the Singapore Japanese Association and was officially registered in December 1966 by the Singapore Government. It has two Primary schools and a Secondary school, with a combined student population of approximately more than 2,400. The School is supervised and managed by the Singapore Japanese School, Management Committee in accordance with the requirements of the Singapore Education Act and School's regulations. Funding comes from the following sources: the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs subsidizes building expenses, the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture Government of Japan (Monbusho) provides the school with very large numbers of experienced teachers from Japan, while private enterprises donate and parents pay reasonable amount of fees. Upper grades of the primary and all the secondary school students are encouraged to take part in extra-curricular activities, either in sports or cultural clubs. There are also Boy Scout & Girl Guide Groups available besides the ECAs listed below. These activities provide facilities for the mental, physical and moral development of the students.
