
The Singapore American School is an independent, nonprofit, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises 2 semesters extending approximately August 14 to December 15 and from January 8 to May 31.
The School is governed by a 12-member Board of Governors elected for 3-year terms by the parents of students enrolled at the School.
The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board tests. Instruction is in English. French, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin are taught as foreign languages. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States. The School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges.
The School American School is located on a 36-acre campus approximately 25 minute drive from downtown Singapore. New state-of-the-art facilities house 4 separate divisions, including the primary, intermediate, middle, and high schools. Each division has its own classrooms, library, offices, and support facilities. Support facilities include 5 air-conditioned gymnasiums; 2 outdoor covered play areas; 3 swimming pools; 3 cafeterias; 65 tennis courts; a 1,000-seat stadium; and track and field, baseball, softball, soccer, and rugby fields. Middle and high school facilities include modern science laboratories; computer facilities; a language lab; and drafting, consumer life science, business, and applied technology classrooms. The campus also includes a variety of performing arts facilities including an 800-seat auditorium, a 350-seat drama theater, and a 750-seat elementary theater, and designated classroom spaces for music, art, and drama. All facilities are fully air-conditioned.
