The German European School Singapore is an international school, with students of many nationalities. It welcomes students of any nationality, race or belief provided that their command of German or English is adequate for their learning situation. Students from Grade 9 onwards whose parents do not reside in Singapore must stay in the GESS Boarding House. The German European School Singapore is also a private school. As such it is not required to accept students who do not meet the academic or personal expectations of the School.
The Pre-School Department of the GESS offers a comprehensive, age-appropriate educational programme for children aged from 1½ to 7 years. There are 250 places, making this one of the largest pre-school establishments amongst the German schools in foreign countries. The Primary School caters for Grade 1 through Grade 5 and teaches the curriculum framework of the International Baccalaureate Organization Primary Years Programme. The Middle School caters for Grade 6 to Grade 8 and reflects the phased implementation of the IB Middle Years Programme. The High School at GESS includes grades 10, 11 and 12. At this stage, the grade 10 class is well underway in their preparations for embarking on the IB Diploma Programme.
GESS offers its students a multipurpose sports facility with its modern indoor gymnasium. The Sports Hall is equipped for two full size basketball courts, two volleyball courts, or four badminton courts. The Swimming Pool is a state of the art 25-m swimming facility. Its design from having 1.40m to 2-m depth which makes it ideal for learning and competive swimming.
