The British School Manila was established in 1976, originally with just two classrooms and 32 students. It has now grown to more than 600 students representing 38 nationalities. The school offers an education that nurtures the different strengths and talents of the students who are exposed to a broad and balanced curriculum. The school provides the highest quality British education, following the English National Curriculum from Nursery to Year 13. Children are prepared for National Curriculum Tests (NCTs) at age 7, 11, and 14, GCSE at 16 and International Baccalaureate at 18. Children are also prepared for Common Entrance Examinations if required. In all comparative assessments children at BSM perform well above national UK averages. Class sizes are small with a maximum of 20 students per class. Each child is encouraged to develop at their own rate, benefitting from a high level of individual teacher attention and motivation. The teachers are UK or Commonwealth trained while emphasis is placed on self-discipline within a family atmosphere, providing an ideal environment for children of all nationalities. The British School Manila is proud to uphold the high standard of the British education system in a school that takes full advantage of its multi-cultural setting. All the teaching staff of The British School have either U.K. or U.K. recognized qualifications. All also have at least two years experience of the British curriculum prior to joining the school, although most have involved in British curriculum schools for much longer. The day to day management of the school is by the senior management team. This is made up of the head of school, and the heads of the primary and secondary sections. The school also offers a wide variety of sport, drama, art and general interest clubs within its After School Activity program. At the start of the year, students can sign up for activities. The ASA's take place after the school bell at 14:15 and finish at 15:15.
