Seoul International School is a K-12 international school in Seoul, Korea, that offers an American school curriculum to primarily foreign students. When SIS opened it's doors in 1973, it became the first foreign school, after Korean Liberation in 1945, to be fully recognized by the Republic of Korea (ROK) Ministry of Education. The school was first accredited by the the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in 1979, and has received four successive six-year extensions from the American accreditation agency.
The elementary building is located separately from the main building, and it was built long after the main building was completed. The 6 floor building includes the 1st to 5th grades' classrooms. There is also a library and a gym inside the elementary building.
The main building is the larger of the two buildings, and houses the bulk of the facilities. It has a more traditional Korean design and is the original facility at this site. Kindergarten classes are located here as well as the Middle and High School classes. In addition, all of the administrative offices are located on the 2nd floor of the building.
There are numerous sports facilities on campus. Tiger Gym 1, the largest gym, is located in the main building. It can be used for activities such as basketball, indoor hockey and volleyball. The second gym, Tiger Gym 2, is located in the basement of the elementary building, and is used for activities such as badminton and basketball.
Directly underneath Tiger Gym 1, on basement level 2, is a five-lane 25m long swimming pool which is used as a part of the physical education curriculum as well as for the KAIAC swim team.
Available for use beginning in the fall of 2007, there will be an artificially surfaced soccer field for use of all students and faculty.
