Students in KIS are forbidden to speak Korean while within the school premises. The teachers and staff believe that student use of the English language throughout the day will enhance their ability to speak effectively in a variety of settings and prepare them appropriately for their future. The "Use of English Language" is evaluated by the students and a score will be assigned to each student quarterly. These scores are placed on student's report card and transcript. If a student gets caught speaking Korean, they receive checks, which will be recorded by building level principal. Also, too many checks can deprive students of receiving academic awards and going to a final trip at the end of the year.
