The American Community School (ACS) in Amman, Jordan is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an American educational program from preschool (3 years old) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1955.
The curriculum is similar to that of U.S. public schools and instruction is taught in English. Arabic, Spanish, and French are taught as foreign languages and there is no religious instruction. ACS does not offer a program for students diagnosed as Learning Disabled. Students normally enter the school for the three year old class at the age of three years. It is school policy that a child must be three years old by September 1 to enter the three year old program, and four years old by September 1 to enter pre-kindergarten. Advanced Placement (AP) courses are offered in some subjects. ACS is fully accredited K-12 by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member in good standing of NESA, the Near East South Asia Association of Overseas Schools.
The School is housed in a modern location and includes 44 classrooms, 3 modern science laboratories, 2 computer laboratories, a full library, a sports and cultural center, 3 music rooms, 2 playing fields, 2 tennis courts, and facilities for fine arts education. There are a total of 65 full-time and part-time faculty members, including U.S. citizens, Jordanian nationals, and third-country nationals.
