Nagoya International School is a private, coeducational day school that offers an educational program from preschool through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1964. The school year comprises two semesters extending from the last week of August to January 25 and from the last week of January to June 21.
The School is governed by a 7- to 9-member Board of Directors, elected for alternate 2-year terms. The School is incorporated in both the United States and Japan and has been designated as tax-exempt under Section 501 (c) (3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. The Japanese Ministry of Education has granted the School status as a legal school body.
The curriculum offered is U.S. college-preparatory. Courses are also taught in English-as-a-Second-Language, Spanish and Japanese language/history/culture. Art, music, and physical education are part of the regular program. Nagoya International School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and holds membership in the National Association of Independent Schools, Japan Council of International Schools, and the East Asia Regional Council of Overseas Schools.
The school facilities include 3 instructional buildings, a sports field, and ample play areas set on 8 acres of a park-like campus. Two of the 3 buildings were fully renovated in 2004, and the third building, which includes a gym, was completed in 1999. The sports field and elementary play area were renovated with artificial surfaces and age appropriate equipment in 2006. Classroom facilities are modern, and the School boasts a very robust wireless network. All rooms are carpeted, air-conditioned, and equipped with computers.
