The Walworth Barbour American International School in Israel is an independent, coeducational day school, which offers an educational program from kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The School was founded in 1958. The school year comprises 2 semesters, extending from August 16 to January 19 to June 13. The School is a non-profit corporation registered in the State of Delaware. The ultimate powers of the corporation reside in the corporate membership, which has delegated the policy-making responsibility for the School to a seven-member school board. Four of the school board members are employees or dependents of the U.S. Embassy; the other three are drawn from the Israeli, American and international communities. The curriculum is that of U.S. general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board Entrance Examination Board tests and IOWA Test of Basic Skills (ITBS). Instruction is in English. Hebrew, Spanish, and French are taught as foreign languages. Special education services provide support for students with mild learning disabilities. There is no religious instruction. An extensive after-school program, including arts, crafts, sports, and other recreational activities, serves grades 1-12. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States. The Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools accredited the School in 1998 for a third consecutive ten-year period. Faculty: In the 2006-2007 school year, there are 62 full-time and 13 part-time faculty members. The physical plant includes a 15,000-volume library, 4 science laboratories, 5 computer laboratories, 2 art rooms, a dark room, a gymnasium and fitness center, and adequate playing fields athletic facilities. In March 2007, the School will move to a new, purpose built, state of the art facility on 9 acres, much larger than the current facility. The new campus will house separate ES, MS, and HS buildings with modern, well-equipped science laboratories; a performing arts center with three music rooms, three art studios, a black box theater and a 380 seat auditorium; a library and administrative building; a fully equipped cafeteria; a double gymnasium with aerobic and weight rooms, extensive fields; soccer pitches; 4 tennis courts; 5 outdoor basketball courts; a swimming pool and ES playgrounds.
