The French International School (French: Lycée International Français de Jakarta), located in the middle south of Jakarta, Indonesia accomodates pupils of more than 15 nationalities. The college and the elementary school are lodged in buildings built in 1989, entirely renovated in 2006; the new buildings of the nursery school were completed in April 2007.
The school was created on December 5, 1967 on the initiative brought together by expatriate parents living in Jakarta at the time of the construction of the Jatihulur dam by a group of French companies. The school was initially called petite école française de Jakarta" or “small French school of Jakarta” and subsequently into several other names before officially becoming the “Lycée International Français de Jakarta”.
LIF is a non-profit-making association and is placed under the administrative supervision of the Agency for French Teaching abroad (A.E.F.E) and under the teaching control of the Ministry for National Education. L.I.F enrolls close to 400 pupils representing 25 nationalities of which a majority are of French origin.
