
British International School was founded in 1973 and caters for expatriates regardless of nationality accepting students from age 3 to 18 years. The school follows the National Curriculum of England and Wales, offering the GCSE, IGCSE and International Baccalaureate Diploma and Certificates. The emphasis is on providing students with the very best education that will stand comparison to the top schools in their home countries. Of the 45 nationalities currently represented, majority hold British passport.
The academic school year comprises three terms beginning in September and ending in July. The school foundation is led by a Council of Trustees which delegates executive responsibility for the administration of the school to a Board of Governors, comprising elected and co-opted members from the parent body.
Extra curricular activities include a variety of sports, performing arts and creative opportunities including drama, canoeing, Tai Kwon Do, scuba diving, orchestra, ballet, languages, dance and golf.
The school's purpose-built, 18 hectare campus is south west of the city centre in a green field location. Facilities include libraries, sports halls, cafeteria, specialised computing, science and technology labs, music facilities, playing fields, tennis courts and an Olympic-size swimming pool and boarding accommodation.
