Symbiosis International School (SIS) is a coeducational day school for pre-school to grade 12 students located in Viman Nagar, Pune, the capital city of Maharashtra state in India. The school opened its doors in 2005 and is one of the first schools in Pune to offer the IB Diploma Programme.
SIS refers to itself as a "world school" due to the international curriculum it follows. The school follows the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) for grades 9 and 10 and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) for grades 11 and 12. SIS is a May session school. The syllabus comprises a combination of classroom teaching and hands on experience with English, Hindi, French and Spanish languages taught to the students.
There are approximately 300 students (as of academic year 2007-2008), of whom one third are foreign nationals. SIS is a diverse community and has teaching staff and students from over 10 different countries. Fees are comparable with other international schools in India.
The entire student body is divided into four houses to compete with each other in sports and other events. The four houses are Agni, Jal, Vayu and Bhoomi. Students can play different types of indoor and outdoor sports including cricket, gymnastics, football, basketball, tennis, golf, volleyball, swimming and track and field sports. The school also has a music room and allows students to learn a number of instruments such as guitar and drums. SIS also has a student council whose members are elected yearly. The school also takes part in Model United Nations.
