Bangalore International School is a co-educational private school in Bangalore, India. It's mission is to provide internationally recognized students of education with an Indian ethos and enable students to fulfill their potential in a culturally rich atmosphere. Bangalore International School began in May 1969 as an elementary school with 17 students. It was started for the dependents of US employees working in Bangalore. In March 1970, the school moved to a rented premises on Millers Road and was called “The American Community School”. Later in June 1980 the school was renamed as “Bangalore International School”. In 2001 the school has moved into new large and spacious premises on the outskirts of Bangalore close to the Ring road on the Hennur-Bagalur Road. Bangalore International School (BIS) is accredited by the University of Cambridge International Examinations Syndicate. The school is also a Cambridge International Examinations Centre and offers the following curriculum: Pre-primary to Grade 12, the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) (Grade 10) ICE Diploma, General Certificate (GCE) AS and A Level AICE Diploma (Grade 12), International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for Grades 11 & 12 while the Primary Years Programme (PYP) and Middle Years Programme (MYP) will be offered soon. The school also teaches French, German, Hindi and Spanish to Grade 2 students onwards. The school also offers National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) programme. BIS uses modern facilities to augment teaching including fully equipped computer lab with 20 workstations, science laboratories, a well stocked library, and a learning center for children with special needs. In addition, hostel facilities are provided to students over 10 years of age. The students are provided with fully furnished rooms with facilities for extra-curricular activities like swimming, tennis and a gym provided. Dorm Parents stay on the premises to take care of all the needs of the boarders.
