The American Embassy School, New Delhi, India is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an educational program from prekindergarten (Early Childhood Education) through grade 12. The School was founded in 1952. Its motto is "Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve".
Admission is guaranteed for US residents in Delhi. Eligibility in all other cases is limited to children whose parents or legal guardians are temporarily residents in India and located in New Delhi. Eligible Indian students may be admitted only with the approval of the Government of India. 30 percent of the school's 1146 students in nursery to twelfth grade are Americans, the majority of students represent more than 46 nationalities.
The School is governed by a 7-member Board of Governors, elected for 2-year terms by the American Embassy School Association of New Delhi, the sponsor of the School. This group also aims to ensure that the school remains a part of the local community.
The curriculum is that of general academic, college-preparatory public schools. The School's testing program includes the College Board and American College Testing tests. Instruction is in English. French and Spanish are taught as foreign languages. English-as-a-Second-Language is offered for non-English-speaking students. The School also offers the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs. Most of the graduates go on to colleges and universities in the United States and other countries. The School is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
The school includes two huge libraries, three swimming pools, a physical education center, several computer labs, big playgrounds, and a performing arts center. The school campus is spread over twelve acres.
