The British School of Beijing (BSB) is a non-profit, independent organization established to provide British education to the expatriate community of Beijing. The school was established in 2003 at a time when no other school in Beijing was offering the English National Curriculum. The curriculum was developed by the British Government and is a standardized programme delivered in Beijing in the same way as any British School worldwide. All children are taught in mixed ability classes, with children of the same age. Children may be taught English, Maths or other core subjects in smaller groups if it is necessary. The school has 3 main departments: Early Years (Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception - ages 2 to 5), Primary, Years 1 - 6 (ages 5 - 10), and - Secondary, Years 7 - 11 (ages 11-16.)
BSB has two campuses in Beijing. One is located in the suburban district of Shunyi and offers education from Pre-nursery to GSCE (ages 2 to 16). The other campus is located in Sanlitun embassy district of Beijing which caters to Early Years and Primary school students offering Pre-Nursery to Year 6.
