The Baku International School, founded in 1994, is an independent, coeducational day school which offers an excellent program for prekindergarten (two years old) through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises 3 trimesters extending from August 25 until December 21, from January 12 until March 31, and from April 3 until June 14.
The School is governed by the board of Directors of Quality Schools International, the membership of which is formed and set forth in the Bylaws of Quality School International. An Advisory Board, which assists the School in its operation, is composed of 6 to 10 members residing in Baku and appointed jointly by the President of Quality Schools International and the Director of the School.
The School offers a performance-based educational program with a curriculum similar to that of U.S. public and private schools. The program of study is cooperatively written on a five-year cycle of review by all Quality Schools International schools according to U.S. and European educational standards. Instruction leads to individual mastery of skills, concepts, and abilities; made possible by small class sizes and the diverse educational backgrounds of the student body. Instruction is in English for all subjects except in the foreign language lessons: French, Russian and Azeri. Running parallel to the regular program of study is an intensive English program. The School is accredited by Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.
In the 2006-2007 school year, there are 16 teachers, 9 teacher assistants, 1 intensive English coordinator, 3 intensive English instructors, 1 computer network administrator, 1 computer teacher, 1 librarian, 2 physical education teacher, 1 office manager, 2 accountants, 1 procurement officer, 3 maintenance staff, 4 guards, 1 director of instruction, and 1 director.
In the summer 2003, the School moved into a fabulous new facility near the conveniently located Ganjlik district of Baku. The refurbished building is centrally heated/air-conditioned and includes: 12 classrooms, a chemistry laboratory, an extensive library, a new computer laboratory, a 2/3-year old center with kitchen, a 4-year old center with kitchen, a 400-person auditorium, a large cafeteria with industrial kitchen, a centralized covered sports courtyard for indoor athletics, a padded gymnastics and ballet center, a grassed playing field, an expansive outdoor jungle gym, and an outdoor tree house complex. For security measures a centralized fire alarm/ intercom system is in place, along with 24-7 guard duty, automatic generator backup, and a high security wall. .
