
The Sandford International School is a co-educational, non-boarding, nursery to pre University institution. To meet the international standards of its programme, the School employs a highly qualified professional staff. It is committed to providing a standard of education that is accepted within Ethiopia and by the international community.
Sandford International School was known until the recent change of name as the Sandford English (Community) School. It was founded in the 1940s after the end of the second World War to establish an English-speaking school for the Head of British Military Mission to Ethiopia.
The School adopts a programme of continual assessment and self evaluation and it prepares students for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education, the International Baccalaureate and Ethiopian National Examinations.
The site is located on 27,000 sq. meters of land. It has mostly purpose-built classrooms, offices and laboratories. The libraries have been increasingly outfitted with computers to keep up with technology. The specialist facilities include five laboratories, two IT rooms, an art room, a music center, a hall with stage and a large gymnasium. There is a football pitch and facilities for athletics. The store has appropriate administration and support departments, including a sick bay.
